I only stopped on the way once to pick up breakfast and head on my way. White smoke coming from left wheel I stopped at a gas station and the attendant noticedthe white smoke coming from the car, and it seemed to be the wheel. Nothing wrong with the brakes whatsoever. I have a Mercury Topaz A week ago my frien husband and I just replaced the brake pads, calipers and rotors on the car - so now everything is brand new. We checked out the brake rotors to make sure there was no residue or anything on them and they seemed to be fine. SMOKE COMING FROM FRONT WHEEL? It will not save money or time and it is very rare that a bearing would smoke.
So there is zero reason to think that the other bearings would ever do this. Saying to change all the bearings is horrible advice. We have zero evidence that the smoke came from the bearing. This is generally steam caused by condensation. As the engine warms up and the condensation dissipates the white exhaust smoke (steam) is no longer seen.
I just got my front brakes and rotors replace now when I drive there is a white -ish smoke coming from the right side wheel. He said I should get the right side caliper replaced. A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine.
A while back I had a right front caliper seize up. When I got into my driveway I got out to see black smoke pouring out of the wheel well. I walked over to look at it only to see flames. At the time I was running cross drilled rotors, EBC Green pads.
After awhile I began getting a really bad burning smell coming in through the driver window. I pulled over and saw small faint lines of smoke coming out of the front driverside wheel well, upon closer inspection I got a good wiff of burnt brake pad (I am familiar with the scent) and the hub cap on the wheel was really hot. The smoke is probably building up in the engine bay and being blown out of the wheelarch by the cooling fan. Run the engine with the bonnet open and see where its coming from , could be oil burning off the engine if its leaking somewhere, or the manifold leaking gases. Brake makes smoke issue in car. When I immediately drove the car afterwards, the front end shake was gone. But I noticed something odd. My driver side wheel has this awful smell, and when I got done driving it (I was hard on the brakes to test out and make sure it was stopping well, and it was) it was lightly smoking at that wheel.
