Vw t4 white smoke on startup

It smokes grey smoke on start up, smells really diesel exhaust and is a little fuel heavy. My workshop has checked all other parts like piston, battery, etc is fine, they suspect is the fuel pump. Will be trouble shooting it soon. Has anyone encounter this set of problems? Either the GP heater, one or more glow plugs or the GP relay are possibly malfunctioning.

This would definitely make it hard to start on a cold engine. The white smoke is the result of normal condensation which builds up inside the exhaust system. I get lots of that in the winter for a while after. Also my friend said it could be the fuel pump but would the van start and run if the fuel pump had gone.

Over the last couple of months it started out intermitently usually after a run then stopping (say traffic lights) on idle the clouds would start. Yesterday I got an oil change at my trusted mechanic. Already replaced the turbo with a used borg K03s that had 60k on it. The origional turbo was TRASHED! The ECU is chipped and the motor is pushing 20psi max and about 250hp (estimating).
