RBG’s Arboretum is more like an English landscape park than a garden. As its name implies, this is the place where you can see a wide variety of trees and other woody plants up close. It is especially beautiful in spring and fall.
The Arboretum entrance is regular RBG admission rate during May and June. An RBG membership provides free parking at the trailheads. The Rock Chapel parking lot will be closed for the season starting December or earlier if icy conditions occur.

Meaning ‘a place with trees’ in Latin, the Arboretum is not only a striking landscape but a scientific treasure trove, vital to our botanical and conservation research. Every tree planted here is a source of knowledge, helping us conserve the habitats of beloved native trees and protect some of the world’s most fascinating species at risk from deforestation. My husband and I visited the RBG Arboretum today for the first time and found it incredible and very diverse.
We saw lots of wildlife (birds, deer, chipmunks, butterflies, beetles, and a turtle) and it really felt like a sanctuary habitat for them. Locally it’s known as the RBG. This was my first visit to the RBG grounds, aside from the trails at Hendrie Valley and the Arboretum. What is an Arboretum ? Think of the Arboretum at RBG as a living museum of trees! Our arboretum includes some more showy spring collections (like the lilacs, magnolias, cherry blossoms, and crabapples) but in the fall the whole area gets to shine once the spectacular fall colours come through!
It is one of the major tourist attractions between Niagara Falls and Toronto , as well as a significant local and regional horticultural, education, conservation, and scientific resource. There are washrooms on site and lots of benches where you can relax and enjoy the views (and smells!). RBG has its own shuttle bus, so you can also go around in a shuttle.

The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

As the largest botanical garden of its kind in Canada, this National Historic Site and part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve, is an open-air museum filled with natural wonders.
In a manicured arboretum , the need for beneficial mycorrhizae is even greater, because there is more stress and less water, nutrients and organic matter present in typical supporting soils. The presence of beneficial mycorrhizae in these conditions will help to successfully maintain healthy, feeder - root growth. Four distinct formal gardens are contained with 1hectares of nature reserve, nestled into the slopes of Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve.
