Exhaust still smoking after engine off

After the test drive and back at the garage I switched the engine off. I then noticed for about the next minute or so there was still smoke coming from the exhaust. Car smokes after turned off?

How long will exhaust smoke after engine rebuild? So i was just driving back from home today, and on my way home I filled up with gas without any problems. As I was getting out of my car, i noticed that white smoke was coming out from my back of my exhaust , even though my car was off. It was coming out from left side only, which i understand.

Could my catalytic converter be the reason as to why my cars exhaust is smoking after I turn my car off ? Exhaust coming from your vehicle’s tailpipe should be clear. There was some white smoke coming out of the right exhaust pipe, but not the left. Smoke from tail pipes after engine shut off ! This will cause white smoke, along with the idle issue. I get to the gas station, turn my car off , and start filling up with gas. Mind you, the car has been OFF for at least 3-minutes at this point.

I get behind my car to pop open my trunk, and there was some white smoke still coming out of my LEFT exhaust. White smoke most likely would indicate that water or coolant is getting into the combustion chamber or exhaust port. This can occur if coolant is leaking into the head.

It could also be as simple as water entering the exhaust or carburetor after the engine was pressure-washed. Smoking quit after the very first drive once it burned out of the exhaust. Have put a couble thousand miles on the car and all coolant consumption has stopped. The coolant reservoir level went down maybe an inch after drives then stabilized once all the air purged itself from the system. After minutes no smoke out of exhaust and it did not smell like burning oil either like before, just smelled like exhaust.

Then I started it the next morning and its smoking burning oil from ex. It started off black when first spun it up after all the work, but has now cleared. My VBMW was smoking randomly and burning oil. Now it is fully and professionally fixed for under $20. No additives or tricks just replacing a simple part.

While these were torn. If the white smoke still keeps coming out after the engine is nice and warm something may be wrong. There may be problems with the engine block , and coolant may be leaking in to the engine because of a leak in the head gasket.

If the engine runs “rich with too much fuel, the excess fuel is unburned and escapes with the exhaust gasses into the exhaust manifold and the rest of the exhaust system. Exhaust parts are extremely hot when the engine is warmed up, so the unburned fuel ignites in the exhaust in an inefficient burn, leading to the black smoke you see. Look for oil that may have been spilled on the engine or exhaust manifold during the oil change.

If you find a spill, wipe off as much as you can with rags. The rest will normally burn off as you drive the car. When it does, the smoking will stop. This happens because when your old one went ba there is a chance that oil may have been leaking inside your engine which when your engine is running is burning. Once started the exhaust heat will now start to burn off the coolant and water that was pushed into the exhaust system.

When this fluid is heated it will come out the exhaust as white smoke or steam. Theproblem is that load of oil gets dumped in the exhaust so after you change the turbo there is still loads of oil in the exhaust system. I bought the car with a blown turbo. Massive smoke and raw oil coming out of the exhaust.

Put junkyard turbo on it. New turbo was bone dry. Started it after priming system and it still smoked bad and was really noisy. But the noise went away mostly. I can still hear it a little.

IF not it could be an engine problem but if its white its more then likey just unburnt oil in the ehxaust still. If You stop the engine for a while (minutes enough), then after restarting it, at first it does not smoke, but after a few minutes, it starts again. The oil gets burned (deep brown) after a few.
