That yellowish golden hue, that perfect size fitting into your palm, that perfectly ripe ones stacked one above the other and when you pick one to smell it, uffff! Various farmers from across the country will participate in this fruit mela which is organized by the Department of Horticulture. Lal Bagh most attractive place for attracts couples, lovers, to meet up. This garden is a home to a variety of flora and fauna.


There are many different kinds of bird species found here like Myna, Common Egret, Parakeets, and Pond Heron etc. The Mango and Jackfruit Mela of the Horticulture Producers and Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) kicked off on Friday wherein both fruits are being sold at a discount on the market price at its 3retail outlets in the city for the rest of the season. It is that time of the year which completely transforms my diet plan. They are also selling varieties of jackfruits. The proposal has been floated by the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation.

During other seasons,. We Bangaloreans have rather been lucky to taste almost all varieties of mangoes, including some native species. But did you know that one of the first rulers of Karnataka to focus on development of horticulture and also experiment with mango cultivation was Tipu Sultan. This mango grows in parts of Punjab although it is originally from Sindh (now in Pakistan).


This breed is at its best in the beginning of June (very late for mangoes that start coming in from mid April). The Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation (KSMDMC) and the Horticulture Department are organising the mela. Indian food and dishes like Curry, Balti, Tikka. Lalbagh mangoes are mainly used for eating purpose.


Popularly known as Rajgira in Karnataka, the soft and juicy fleshed fruit has a distinct appearance with shades of green and red. The term Sindhura came about due to its vermillion shade that resembles Sindoor. I saw about 4-jack fruits displayed but it was mango which occupied the majority space in the garden.


The special about this “Mango Fare” is that the mango displayed and sold here are grown organically and it’s not ripened artificially. Each had its own beautiful shape and size to boast of, and was ornamented with green, re yellow patches, being at different stages of ripeness. The event started on Friday. Initially the authorities had called off the mela owing to a low yield of mangoes, this year but they had a last minute change of plans. However there are only varieties of the fruit on display,.

The garden is of course not the same what it used to be when i used to visit years back. Hapus mango are known for sweetness, richness, flavor and for its taste in international market. The saffron colored Alphonso mangoes are the most expensive varieties of mango in India, grown mainly in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Devgarh and Raigad districts of Maharashtra.
