Cold start white smoke

What causes white smoke and engine blow by? What could cause white smoke and no coolant? Why do diesels smoke white when cold? Is white smoke at idle always injectors?

Cold start white smoke

When it’s cold outside and you notice white smoke at startup, then you probably have nothing to worry about. When the warm or hot exhaust gases meet cold outside air, condensation and steam is a result. After a short amount of driving, the white smoke should lessen. White smoke on start up in the morning for a few seconds is normal and harmless.

But it is always a good idea to keep an eye on your oil and coolant levels on any car, smoke or no smoke. Even in a hot and humid climate , there will be some condensation in the exhaust system overnight. If you notice you are low on coolant or having to add coolant then there could be an issue.

If this just started then you have either a bad pcv valve(dont know if camrys have this) or bad engine valve seals. The white smoke means oil is leaking into the cylinders after the car is parked for a while. Like Share Re: My Car Exaust Smokes White Only On Cold Start Up.

Continuous white smoke while driving is one of them. If you are having a diesel, white smoke may be unburned fuel or coolant going through the engine. But mostly, it is the incorrect injector timing in the cylinders.

Diesel engines need high compression and heat for fuel combustion. It can be especially difficult to start a diesel engine during cold weather. Diesels with an engine temperature below about F. The content of white smoke is finely atomized raw fuel and water vapor. The truck started pouring out white smoke cold starts in the winter. Excessive smoke , I am the original owner and it is not just the typical diesel haze.

Smoke smells of raw diesel and completely goes away after a few minutes of driving. So your truck has cold start issues? This is probably coming because of normal condensation build-up in your car’s exhaust system, especially if it has undergone damp or cold climate conditions. It is normal, nothing to be concerned about, and will disappear quickly. Mines would sound like a fire fight inside the block when it was cold and had white smoke , vibration, rough idle and the loud smell of unburnt fuel.

However if you have air entering the drainback system overnight at the injector drainback cap O-rings or elsewhere that increases the rough running after start up. If this smoke is happening when the engine is still warm then you probably have an injector or that is not seating and leaking fuel into the cylinder. Check you oil for diesel to see how serious it is.

Excessive white smoke could be an indication of inoperative glow plugs, loose injectors, low compression from worn rings or bent connecting rods, or coolant leak into the cylinders. Some white smoke is normal on cold start -ups. Black smoke : Caused by excessive fuel for the amount of air drawn into the cylinders.

Water entering combustion spaces will also create white smoke. Minimum compression pressure should be 2psi at cranking speed.
