Dangerous smoke is choking almost all areas around Greater Sydney. In some areas the air quality index ( AQI ) reached times hazardous levels on Tuesday. ACT Health reports on air quality using up-to-date, accurate data on levels of pollutants in the air. Bushfires are creating smoky conditions across much of NSW that may continue for some time.


Smoke can affect people’s health and it is important for everyone to reduce exposure. AQI : Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (1- 150) Although general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air. An air quality index ( AQI ) is used by government agencies to communicate to the public how polluted the air currently is or how polluted it is forecast to become.
