Car making white smoke

What causes a car to emit large amount of white smoke? What does it mean when a car lets out white smoke? Why is my car emitting white smoke? The smoke could indicate more serious problems with the fuel filter , cylinder hea the cylinder head gasket or even a crack in the engine block.

One reason for white smoke is very common and completely harmless. You would obviously want to fix this leak very fast because if the engine components are not being lubricated properly by the oil, then they’ll start to get worn out and damaged rather quickly. White smoke can be a big problem or not, depending on the thickness. The white smoke is the result of normal condensation which builds up inside the exhaust system. When you start the car , the engine heats up, and these water droplets are emitted as white smoke.

However, the white smoke persists it could mean that the coolant is leaking to the combustion chambers. A damaged head gasket or cracked engine block leak coolant. Sometimes it is just a question of how long the smoke is emitting. Cars on a cold morning in the winter are going to generate a white vapor. This ordinarily goes away once the car engine is warm.

If the white smoke still keeps coming out after the engine is nice and warm something may be wrong. In some cases, the white smoke may be caused due to a deteriorated coolant in the radiator. If the coolant isn't working properly, it can lead to white smoke. If the coolant has run out, then it will lead to the engine overheating.

This is generally steam caused by condensation. Another problem is when your car has a coolant leak. When car’s cylinders head or gasket is either damaged or cracke not necessarily that crack should be big, coolant starts to leak out of it and get mixes with engine oil.

This mixing in contamination of engine oil are ultimately resulting in white exhaust smoke with some sweet odor smell. The oil filler cap in almost all the engines releases a faint whiff of smoke , which is a residue of the burnt fuel inside the engine. Older engines produce more hot spots, which make the car smoking under hood but not overheating. Every vehicle is likely to show a small amount of white smoke when first starte especially on cold mornings.

As long as the smoke disappears as the engine warms up, there is no need to worry. It’s going to take some diagnosis to determine the source. Low coolant or exhaust gas in the coolant points to a bad head gasket or cracked head.

Oil consumption can be valve guides or piston rings. Faulty fuel injectors are also known to cause white smoke. This occurs when the fuel injector does not spray the appropriate amount of fuel into the combustion chamber. This usually makes an engine a lot louder than normally. A car engine can smoke for several reasons.

This could be caused by valve stem seals, worn rings, a plugged PCV valve, not changing the oil for extended periods, too high of an oil level or transmission fluid being sucked into the intake manifold from a bad vacuum modulator. I am so scared that it is the head gasket because my mom, myself and my daughter, and my year old.
