Why would a car blow white smoke? What is the cause of white smoke from the engine? What causes a car to smoke under the hood? Or maybe you completely forgot to add coolant at all, and the engine overheated. Not that anyone would ever do that.
If it was white smoke , I’d presume that it is coolant. The first thing you should have done is open the hood and see where the smoke was coming from. It may have been at night, but a flashlight would have helped you find the source of the smoke. Now it’s kind of hard to diagnose the problem. White smoke comin from hood passenger.
The oil filler cap in almost all the engines releases a faint whiff of smoke , which is a residue of the burnt fuel inside the engine. Older engines produce more hot spots, which make the car smoking under hood but not overheating. The most common cause of white smoke from under the hood of a vehicle is an overheated engine. You said white smoke was coming out from the hood area behind the engine: You could have a leaked manifold gasket. The cause could be a faulty water pump If the pump is not working well the coolant and or water is not being forced through the system well enough to keep the engine cooled thus creating overheat. I pulled over and turned the car off, and saw I had a crack in my upper radiator hose.

Less than half a mile down the roa there was a small amount of white smoke coming out from under my hood. After driving for minutes I noticed white steam coming from the left side of the front hood. There was also a bad smell coming from there, kind of like burning rubber but not exactly. Leaking oil on the exhaust often does causes smoke to appear as the oil.
The black smoke may show there is a return fuel line which is obstructed. Fuel injectors and sensors might also be damaged. A final problem which can be diagnosed from black smoke is problem with the air filter. Exhaust Smoke Exhaust smoke comes in three basic flavors: black, white and blue.
Black smoke typically comes with a strong odor of fuel, and indicates that there’s too much fuel or not enough air going into the motor, or that there’s a spark malfunction causing a misfire.
