Powerstroke emitting excessive white smoke ? The truck just started doing this today. I had a similar problem about a month ago where the truck was blowing white smoke and had no power, it still ran at idle but had no power. White Smoke on Start up - Ford.
Diesel F2with 20mi on it. Ran great at first, but am noticing white smoke at startup and continuing intermittently for several miles. Still have the factory warranty, but hate dealing with the service departments. For big diesel engines this is big because it is not uncommon for these vehicles to be used for more than a half-million miles before retirement.
Blowing white smoke is a red flag for your diesel engine, yet we see this happen all the time to our customers. In many cases, white smoke emanating from the tailpipe (often at idle once the engine reached operating temperature) typically means a worn out injector. Smoke is the easiest way to tell what is wrong with a PowerStroke fuel injector. This is usually the last color of smoke you want to see, particularly on gas cars. If the smoke is thin, and goes away relatively quickly, than it is merely condensation.
However, thicker, longer lasting smoke is a much larger headache. Your engine is more than likely burning coolant. It blows excessive white smoke. It smells like RAW diesel.
I have a large reduction in mileage. I checked the Oil and its not blowing smoke out of their. Check the exhaust for a burnt exhaust valve. And i am building pressure in the coolant so its not a head gasket.
Re: Gray smoke from exhaust from 6. From my experience gray or white smoke means a blown head gasket. You can also check radiator and see if there is any oil in it too. Submitted: years ago.

It is owned by a friend and he took it to the dealer because of white smoke and a rough idle. Why does your powerstroke 6. Onto your question, sounds like something with the fuel to me.
I would check the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM). If it is going ba low volts to the injectors, not properly burning fuel, and white smoke. Also check the EGR valve again.
Smoke smells of raw diesel and completely goes away after a few minutes of driving.
