Bmw 320d white smoke on acceleration

When the engine is running the smoke appears, then fades, then shortly comes back. I also noticed today theres drops of oil from the exhaust. BMW 320D - White Smoke Mystery. It had a new Turbo at 48K and last year I had the EGR replaced which transformed the performance.

Skip navigation Sign in. Since owning it, I noticed whistling noice in low speed which I was told is normal. When fuel burns it creates carbon dioxide and water (amongst many other oxides, nitrides etc).


If I continue to drive the car the smoke continue to come out. Just cruising along the motorway at 65mph, when I noticed a lack of power. If you floor it, it spits out a cloud of smoke. The temperature gauge didnt go up, nor was the engine smoky when I opened th bonnet. The smoke was coming out of the exhaust smelt like chemicals and maybe fuel.


I drove it very slowly to work and checked the oil to see if there was a mix of that and water - the oil seems fine. I waited for the car to cool and. Hello, I was recently struggling with cold starts, rough idle and puff off white smoke on cold starts. Had it plugged in and had glow plug faults.


My car yesterday suddenly starting giving off huge amounts of white smoke out of the exhaust, before this had happened the turbo had stopped working as i had no power on the motorway. My diesel 320d started emitting white smoke suddenly one day. One mechanic told me to put diesel fuel injector cleaner in it and service the car.

It solved the problem a little bit. They serviced it and cleaned the EGR Valve and told me that CAT converter is faulty. I was not very satisfied with their advice and took. My car also sometimes displays a message that says STOP!


Average failure mileage is 9miles. Car complaints, car problems and defect information. Got in the car, started it, drove down the roa felt a bit sluggish. You will get a lot at this time of year.


Your car will be burning off condensation in the exhaust system, it will go once the exhaust warms up. I can imagine heavily silenced cars probably trap a lot of water over night and will smoke more on start up. I have checked the oil and it all seems fine. Please help with some info. When I start the car quite a bit cloud of grayish smoke comes out followed by blue smoke which continues to come out.


As soon as the enigne warms up smoke disappears. I know it could be oil being. I noticed that under acceleration smoke would come out of the exhaust very briefly every so often.


She wasnt booting it, but just pulling away from junctions etc. My driving habits are generally just mot. I’m from Los Angeles and our family recently purchased a used BMW 528i (40K miles).


Perhaps this is nothing, but I just wanted to make sure anyway. Today, at around 2AM (maybe degrees C), within minutes of starting the car, we drove into a McDonald’s Drive Thru. I will go with oil smoke , if it was white.

After standing for a while, there might be some seepage of oil from the valve-stem seals, which found its way into the cylinder barrels, and on first ignition, this oil is burnt off. Car still drives but not properly and when idle the car vibrates alot more than usual due to the imbalance caused by it running on cylinders. Had a look around but any ideas on what it could be?
