Vw transporter t5 white smoke

We have just had a Tdi through our shop, slowly using water, no leaks external to the engine. Very slight trace of water at oil filler cap, shining a torch down the filler neck shows oil startng to change colour with water, a lot of vapour coming out of neck when hot. TDI has two problems: 1.
