White smoke at idle

Blowing white smoke is a red flag for your diesel engine, yet we see this happen all the time to our customers. In many cases, white smoke emanating from the tailpipe (often at idle once the engine reached operating temperature) typically means a worn out injector. If you have white smoke from exhaust when stopping or idling, your combustion chambers engine might get oil inside, which cause them to burn off the exhaust. This will cause white smoke , along with the idle issue.

What color is the smoke ? Is the smoke coming when the car is warmed up, or as the car is warming up after a cold start? Blue smoke is oil and could mean worn rings, or leaking past valve guides. If not buring a lot of oil, not much to worry about.

That haze is letting you know that one or more injectors are dribbling fuel into the combustion chamber. On the common rail Cummins, white smoke is more characteristic of an injector problem.
