DIRECTIONS TO ROGER WILLIAMS PARK BOTANICAL CENTER. From North of Providence: ¾ Follow Route south and take exit (Elmwood Avenue) ¾ At the end of the exit, turn left onto Elmwood Ave. Clevelan the entire park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The four greenhouses are the Conservatory, the Mediterranean Room, and two additional rooms which hold cacti, succulents, tropical plants, and fruiting trees like bananas and lemons.
Although the Botanical Center is a work in progress (exterior landscaping is still being installed) the two greenhouses are filled with many interesting and fascinating palms, elephant ears, cannas, bouginvillea, cactus, fruiting plants, etc. The zoo is one of the oldest in the country and boasts more than one hundred species of animals, most of them rare and exotic. During a visit to the Botanical Center, visitors can relax by a waterfall, enjoy the fragrance of flowers from around the worl take a child on a scavenger hunt, or bring a camera or sketch pad. It includes two connected greenhouses filled with plants, fountains, a fish pond and a small waterfall.
This limited time exhibit displays hundreds of fairy houses tucked away in the gardens at the botanical center. It is a purely magical experience to stroll through the grounds and discover these unique treasures. Warm and sunny and smells like Summer.
We loved having the ceremony in the garden center, cocktail hour in the other half of the garden center and outside, while the wedding party took pictures. Then we just walked right down to the tent for a gorgeous night and awesome view. I loved getting to know them as we worked through wedding details, color choices and engagement locations. As the largest public indoor display garden in New Englan it has multiple greenhouses filled with over 1species of exotic plants, some animals, and a koi pond. Sans crowds, we enjoy exploring the greenhouses and discovering teeny-tiny houses, villages, and grottos. I highly recommend taking a drive. The couple hosted the ceremony after sunset, setting a romantic mood for the evening and allowing guests to view the stars through the greenhouse’s glass roof. Though the park offers everything from hiking trails, paddle boats, picnic areas, a carousel, and of course animal exhibits, we want to focus on an exciting feature of the Botanical Center this April.
The Botanical Center invites you to frolic through the paths and gnome trail while searching for enchanting creatures and their houses. Dress in your fairy best to create a fairy or gnome home of your own and take home your creation to. The park is home to a zoo, natural history museum and planetarium, botanical center, year round carousel, fully accessible playgroun and Temple to Music. During the warmer months, you could easily spend a full day in the park and still not see everything.
