Smoke beam

Smoke beam

What is a beam smoke detector? An optical beam smoke detector is a device that uses a projected beam of light to detect smoke across large areas, typically as an indicator of fire. They are used to detect fires in buildings where standard point smoke detectors would either be uneconomical or restricted for use by the height of the building.

Optical beam smoke detectors are often installed in warehouses as a cost effective means of protecting large open spaces. Photoelectric smoke detection uses a steady beam of light. When it comes to smoke alarms , there are two main types: photoelectric and ionization.

Ionization smoke detection employs the use of ions and electrons that whizz around electrodes. The Optical Beam Smoke Detector works on the principle of light obscuration. The photosensitive element of the Optical Beam Smoke Detector sees light produced by the Transmitter in a normal condition. The Receiver is calibrated to a preset sensitivity level based on a percentage of total obscuration.

The FSB-200S is a Single-ended beam smoke detector with integral sensitivity test for use with ONYX Series panels. Reflected Beam Smoke Detectors are designed for spacious rooms, open areas, and high ceilings. With only one device to install and align, these single-ended optical beam solutions saves you time and money on large area applications. The reflected infrared light is detected by the receiver and analyzed. Smoke in the beam path will reduce the received infrared light proportionally to the density of the smoke.

Designed to protect a beam type smoke detectors from vandalism and misuse. NB: All dimensions are based on internal clearance and in mm. Smoke Detector Spacing: On smooth ceilings, – feet ( to 1 m) between projected beams and not more than one-half that spacing between a projected beam and a sidewall.

Other spacing may be used depending on ceiling height, airflow characteristics, and response requirements. The smooth ceiling 30-foot spacing guideline of NFPA 7 with permitted increases for narrow space geometry, allows smoke detectors to extend to approximately feet on-center and along a corridor. The D2provides an effective and unobtrusive means of supervising public areas for fire protection. It consists of a transmitter and receiver that typically mount on the ceiling or high on walls or columns. A remote indicator plate mounts at eye level.

Internal pointability provides coverage flexibility without the need for brackets. The System Sensor OSI-RI-SS and BEAM2are 2-wire, intelligent reflected beam smoke detectors that are uniquely suited for protecting open areas with high ceilings where other methods of smoke detection that are difficult to install and maintain. These detectors are designed to be used with UL-listed compatible control panels only. Smoke Beam Cages Helps Prevent Against Vandalism and Damage. The detector analyzes this attenuation or obscuration of light and acts accordingly.

Smoke beam detectors are commonly installed so that the IR beam is parallel to the ceiling surface. However, they can be installed vertically and at other angles, as a situation demands. A good example of this is an exceptionally high stair tower where the best approach for smoke detection might be to shoot a vertical beam top to bottom. They are uniquely suited for protecting open areas with high ceilings where spot-type smoke detectors are difficult to install and maintain. Six user-selectable sensitivity levels. Do NOT position Detector where personnel or objects can enter beam path Do NOT position two Detectors facing each other Do NOT install the Detector or Reflector in environments where condensation or icing are likely to occur For ranges between 5m and 50m, use a 50m Detector with Reflector.
