BMW forum for owners of BMW vehicles. The temperature gauge didnt go up, nor was the engine smoky when I opened th bonnet. The smoke was coming out of the exhaust smelt like chemicals and maybe fuel.
I drove it very slowly to work and checked the oil to see if there was a mix of that and water - the oil seems fine. I waited for the car to cool and. My VBMW was smoking randomly and burning oil. Now it is fully and professionally fixed for under $20. No additives or tricks just replacing a simple part.
While these were torn. I’m from Los Angeles and our family recently purchased a used BMW 528i (40K miles). Perhaps this is nothing, but I just wanted to make sure anyway. Today, at around 2AM (maybe degrees C), within minutes of starting the car, we drove into a McDonald’s Drive Thru. Can you please advise what may be the problem as this gave no warning.

Further indicators may be noticable loss of coolant flui possibly also discoloration of the engine oil (grayish). However, if it was coming form the exhaust , and it was a result of burning oil, the smoke would be very black. I had the oil seperator kit replaced by the dealer about winters ago and all of a sudden this year, I’m having the intermittent white (thick!) smoke and loss of power on acceleration. What causes white smoke from the exhaust ? I would worry about white smoke as that suggests water.
Maybe get the coolant checked for exhaust gases? But what about all that smoke from the exhaust ? Driving home I noticed the occasional puff of blue smoke when setting off after idling. BMW 320i E9 car has 120k mileage, blueish smoke from exhaust when pulling off, excessive oil consumption, had the oil seperator replaced buy dealer after diagnosis,one week later the car has started to consume oil and smokin again. When the engine is running the smoke appears, then fades, then shortly comes back.
I also noticed today theres drops of oil from the exhaust. A colleague bought a BMW about a month ago and has arrived at work this morning with some problems. I have noticed lately, that when I pull away after being at idle, in traffic or traffic lights for a long perio , I get a cloud of blue grey smoke from the rear of the car. This smoke does not appear while driving normally, at hig.
The car is a 330i SE reg. So much like the title states, I have a BMW Xwith a 3. L inline Vthat smokes upon starting. It doesn’t seem to occur all of the time but occasionally I will notice a large white cloud of smoke billowing form the exhaust. I have no experience changing this part and was wondering if this would be a plausible.
BMW 740il Getting white smoke out of the exhaust at cold start in the AM and if let for couple of hours the same thing happens at start up. It happens only for a minute. When that happens I push the gas pedal that extract all the smoke then it stops smoking.
I check the water and oils they are enough. Can anyone tell me what is the problem ?
