Subaru white smoke

Did oil change, tune up etc. When the car is on idle, i see white smoke coming from the exhaust, it usually clears up when driving. This never happened before. White smoke can be a big problem or not, depending on the thickness.

I haven’t turned my car on in about two months (I know dumb). I started it today and was going to leave it running for a while so the battery could charge, and I noticed white smoke coming from the. Check your oil dipstick to see if your oil is milky looking. Well without being able to see it first hand this is just another guess. In most cases with cars that I have worked on, white smoke has just been carbon.


You might want to check your AP maps. Make sure your fuel is setup properly. Smoke on startup is normal? Big puff of white smoke last maybe seconds it is odorless.


It also happens anytime the car sits for a few hours. It is somewhat embarrassing when it happens since it is only months old and 10k miles. Has had oil changes first with traditional and last with subaru synthetic. Is this still condensation or ami looking at something bigger ? When there is white smoke coming from the exhaust, it can mean a few things. One of two conditions is responsible for white smoke blowing out of your exhaust.


First is normal condition (so you don’t have to panic) and the second is a not so normal condition which should be fixed as soon as possible. I originally got it when it had 17xxx miles on it and it started smoking around 185. I do agree with comment on the oil separator vs PCV system. My dealer (and Subaru technicians) have looked.

Water is being introduced into the combustion chamber. The smoke never disappear. Then either way bring it to Subaru to check out the turbo seals, and get a compression leakdown. Also are u running hot.


That could be a headgasket. Condensation that accumulates inside the exhaust pipes, converter and mufflers can produce a puff of white smoke upon diesel engine start-up. In very cold temperatures, the heated exhaust can freeze into minute fuel droplets when exiting the exhaust and produce a more prolonged emission of white smoke for a very short period of driving time. History: A few weeks ago I got in my outback and drove to the mail box at the end of the road.

By the time I got to the mail box I could barely see behind me from all the white smoke coming out the exhaust.
