It cultivates and displays a wide variety of arid and semi-arid plants. One of the floral highlights of the year is spring, when thousands of annuals and brightly coloured vygies come into flower. Only hectares are cultivated and the remaining 1hectares are comprised of natural vegetation. Peak season: June - October Low season: November - May Low season entrance.

You can easily spend a leisurely day seeing the sights and exploring what the area has to offer. The most popular time to visit the garden is during spring (July – September), when the annuals and vygies are in flower. I had visited the previous year and loved the strange forms and curious habits of the plants. It is a scenic drive along one of the most beautiful sections of the N travelling through the rugged mountains of the Du Toitskloof Pass.

Spend the day exploring the area and seeing some of the local attractions. We were almost transfixed by the dazzling colours of the vygies (mesembs), which looked absolutely triumphant in large clumps of yellow, mauve, re orange and pink. National Botanical Gardens South Africa.

Robertson Karoo is a semi-arid vegetation type, restricted to sections of the Breede River Valley, Western Cape Province, South Africa. It is a subtype of Succulent Karoo (geographically an extension of the Little Karoo ) and is characterised by the dominance of succulent plant species, and by several endemic plants and animals.
