The most noticeable symptom of internal coolant leakage is when the white smoke is billowing out of the exhaust pipe and leaves a sweet odor in the air. This is because the two stroke engine have back up oil which normally enters the fuel chamber to lubricate the piston. Smoke at Startup then Dissapears was created by ironheader When I start up I get White Smoke then once i drive it and get the temperature up it disappears. But when i turn it off and turn it back on 5mins later I get the white smoke again, but once it gets a bit hotter it disappears. Dean, 5woil is fine, Some white smoke at start up from cold engine is fairly normal and will dissipate (stop) for the most part after engine and exhaust has warmed up to operating temperature.
On the other han thicker smoke is a pretty big issue. White smoke can be caused by a couple of different things. If there is only smoke on start up, which goes away when the truck gets warmed up, it is likely unburned fuel. An injector with stiction can cause an issue where the combustion temperatures are not high enough to completely burn the fuel.
The smoke is greyish white and lasts until it drifts away. I suspect that the smoke is white because the oil gets past the exhaust valve seal(s) and drips down the stem(s). When the engine starts the oil is vaporized and comes out white since it is not burned in the combustion chamber.
If you’re certain it’s smoke then you likely have weak or worn valve guides. The oil leaks past them all the time, but when you park the oil falls past them and sits in the cylinder until you fire it up again. The oil burns away, white (blue) smoke , and looks clean until next time. Then I drove about minutes up the highway, the car rested for an hour and a half, and on start up there was a decent size cloud of smoke , lasted for about seconds then disappeared.
Smoking is not limited to startups, you may also see white smoke from exhaust when accelerating and on rear cases, you may as well see white smoke from exhaust when idle. There is a special scenario where white smoke on startup then disappears , we will talk about this here in this post. T blowing white smoke at cold start up then disappears after a few seconds.
Some white smoke is very normal when it gets cold as has been noted above, and disappears as soon as it warms up enough to burn all of the fuel. It is composed of atomized fuel components that were not burned in the cylinder and will present a very strong smell. K miles (Banks turbo installed 60K miles ago): 1. Then when the car is started the water turns to steam from the hot exhaust.
Water is white smoke (and usually dissipates quickly after leaving the exhaust), oil is grayish smoke (and hangs around longer plus smells of oil) and excess fuel is a blacker smoke. But if it never happened before and now suddenly you see it then maybe. Check coolant level for. As long as the smoke disappears as the engine warms up, there is no need to worry. Here is how to read the smoke … 1. It will happen often at startup in cold weather with lower compression engines.
As you start running the engine at idle (around 6or 7rpm) you will achieve a more effective compression ratio and the smoke. It should reduce or even disappear after the car becomes reasonably warm. But, if the white smoke from tailpipe persists even after a few minutes, then it is not because of cold or condensation and signals a deeper problem. Steam is emitted by condensation in exhaust pipe which is seen at exhaust emission. But it is fine and is nothing to worry about as far as your car is maintained.
Although this morning it started bellowing white smoke. It usually does a little bit if its cool out but not like this. It smelled like normal rich exhaust but the smoke lingered for a bit then disappeared. As the bike got warmer it stopped smoking and the exhaust went to clear.
I recently replaced my HG due to burning coolant. Driven about 5miles, and it seems to run great, good power, no weird noises, no over heating, etc. HOWEVER, on cold start ups only, my car blows a bit of white smoke that possibly smells faintly sweet? You notice white smoke coming from the exhaust when you start your car. If it is cold out, this may be normal.
If the smoke does not disappear after the car is warme you have a problem. Then after about seconds to a minute, the white smoke should clear up. If this is the case then you have nothing to worry about. It started like four days ago.
Also if the engine cools after parking for hours it happens.
