Air quality index table

The AQI is an index for reporting daily air quality. It tells you how clean or polluted your air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for you. This table is updated hourly. Click here for information about all the monitoring sites.


The table above lists the current peak concentration for the critical pollutant, the corresponding Air Quality Index (AQI) category, and the AQI ratings for each of the NAAQS pollutants that are measured real-time. The actual index calculation is different for each parameter measured and is specified by the EPA. The following table shows the various breakpoints used in calculating the AQI. The air quality index comprises five colour-coded categories—see table below. The Air Quality Index is adjusted periodically to reflect these changes. At the boundary between AQI categories, there is a discontinuous jump of one AQI unit. The higher the number, the more air pollution we are breathing. A number of 1corresponds to the federal health standard for that pollutant.
