The white smoke is the result of normal condensation which builds up inside the exhaust system. Blue smoke is oil, probably turbo leak. Old diesels will smoke white on start up and clear up as they warm up and get some compression.

I ran into the white smoke problem on a few coachs back in the midwest. The generator has about 5hours on it. I just started experiencing pretty heavy white smoke coming out of the port-side exhaust.
