Coolant leak white smoke under hood

The white smoke could have been steam from a coolant leak. I’ve had that happen twice, one time on a Corolla due to a radiator that sprang a leak , and the other time on a Ford truck , a coolant hose burst. White smoke comin from hood passenger. The occasional smoke puffs can also be the aftermath of leaked and burn power steering or transmission fluid.

In that case, there will be a cloud of smoke accompanied with a hint of chemical odor. In this case the coolant would end up being heated in the combustion chambers and blown. I have a Jeep Cherokee sport.

I recently had the AC blower motor and compressor fixe and the car seemed fine. After driving the car for about minutes post the compressor repair, just as I was parking it, white smoke came from under the passenger side hood. I assumed it was a little oil burning off from the repair.

One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder hea a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating. A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine. I pulled off and into a parking lot, and checked under the hood. After about an hour, it cooled off and I added. This can be determined by the lack of a burning smell.

If the smoke is coming from under your hood , that probably means you ignored white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, and now your engine is overheating. Or maybe you completely forgot to add coolant at all, and the engine overheated. Not that anyone would ever do that. You said white smoke was coming out from the hood area behind the engine: You could have a leaked manifold gasket. The cause could be a faulty water pump If the pump is not working well the coolant and or water is not being forced through the system well enough to keep the engine cooled thus creating overheat.

If the smoke from under the hood has an oily smell, it is likely that the vehicle has an oil leak , according to Joseph Auto Service. The most common cause of white smoke from the engine bay is a coolant leak that is leaking on a heated part like the exhaust manifold. Open the hood and check for any noticeable coolant leaks. A few days ago I noticed my coolant tank was almost empty, so I know there is a leak somewhere and I believe the coolant is what is burning and causing the smell and smoke.

Worst case scenario you have a busted hose and the coolant is leaking out. The y piece in my van that the hose hooks up to broke antifreeze was everywhere. It got fixed but when I drive I start smelling antifreeze then I notice white smoke or steam coming from under the hood. The temp gage is fin it drives fine. My husband said the antifreeze is just burning off.

About another block up, white smoke (A lot) began coming from more towards the passenger side of the car from under the hood. So I stop at a gas station, with just my 3yr old son in the car with me. To find where the leak is get a leak detection kit. The kit contains a special dye that put in radiator, a uv flashlight, a pair of glasses that allows you to see the dye glowing.

Ford Taurus Burning rubber smell white smoke from under the hood no oil or coolant leaks 3. I think it was an oil Leak of some sort in his car that made white smoke come from the hood. Look around your engine around the HeadGasket (well where the parts of the engine screw together) to see if there are any leaks. If your engine puffs out an occasional stream of white smoke , it could be steam coming from your coolant overflow tank.

Leaking and burning transmission fluid and power steering fluid will also create a cloud of smoke similar to an engine oil leak , but with a slightly more chemical aroma. I cannot tell for sure where it is coming from. It only happens after the car has warmed up.

What should I check first? There is oil or something spilled all over the engine could it just be burning that off? When I drive the car for more than minutes I get white smoke coming from under the hood and a burning smell getting into my air conditioning system.

When I open the hood , I see the white smoke coming from the area which I highlighted with red in the first picture. The second picture is a zoom-in of the first one.
