Kew Gardens is just a short walk from Kew Gardens tube and railway station. Royal Botanic Gardens , Kew is a non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. An internationally important botanical research and education institution, it employs 1staff. Its board of trustees is chaired by Dame Amelia Fawcett.

The organisation manages botanic gardens at Kew in Richmond upon Thames in southwest London, and at Wakehurst, a National Trust property in Sussex which is home to the internationally important Millennium Seed Bank, whose scientists work with partner organisations in more than countries. Our Education Services team develops adaptive, strategic curriculum based programs to assist teachers and provide an enjoyable and valuable learning experience for students from kindergarten to university. It celebrates the importance of bees in our world and is stunningly beautiful. Wolfgang Buttress has created a stunning installation to highlight the importance of pollinators for our existence and to give visitors a direct sense of the way bees communicate. Located on the outskirts of London, the gardens have historical, artistic and architectural attractions in addition to its botanical collections. These are contained in a beautifully landscaped park. I think the chosen location is the perfect new home for this structure that is now set in a wildflower meadow with plenty of signs spread around the area informing with interesting facts about insects pollination and the relationship between bees and plants. Stunning landscapes, iconic buildings, and inspirational art make this the perfect day out for groups of all ages. This 17-meter tall, open-air structure is designed to encapsulate the story of the honeybee and the importance of pollination through sound and touch. Set in a field of wild flowers, the meter high cylinder has an inset cone shape that lights up and pulses with the energy of the bees in the hive behind it. The activity of the bees – who communicate through vibrations – is monitored inside a real hive, also situated at Kew, by a vibration sensor known as an accelerometer.


These vibrations are sent in real time to the man-made Hive which is located in the middle of a wildflower meadow at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The partnership is a fitting recognition of a family-run business that continues to lead the way in the creation of biodiverse wildflower environments.
