I think the chosen location is the perfect new home for this structure that is now set in a wildflower meadow with plenty of signs spread around the area informing with interesting facts about insects pollination and the relationship between bees and plants. Stunning landscapes, iconic buildings, and inspirational art make this the perfect day out for groups of all ages. This 17-meter tall, open-air structure is designed to encapsulate the story of the honeybee and the importance of pollination through sound and touch. Set in a field of wild flowers, the meter high cylinder has an inset cone shape that lights up and pulses with the energy of the bees in the hive behind it. The activity of the bees – who communicate through vibrations – is monitored inside a real hive, also situated at Kew, by a vibration sensor known as an accelerometer.

These vibrations are sent in real time to the man-made Hive which is located in the middle of a wildflower meadow at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The partnership is a fitting recognition of a family-run business that continues to lead the way in the creation of biodiverse wildflower environments.
