White smoke from the exhaust of any internal combustion engine is cause for concern. In an outboard , though, it may mean something other than a tow to shore and an expensive repair. Mercury EFI Smoking ( white smoke ) really bad.
Sometimes it is ba but there are certain instances where you can see white smoke , due to an overheat issue. Dealing with an outboard engine that is using seawater to cool it down, if there is a clog somewhere in the cooling system, the engine can heat up and turn the cooling water into vapor. Thanks for getting back. My boat has been stored for the whole winter.
OD in the up position. Mercarb What causes white smoke ? Try cutting your mix just a bit and see what the reult is. When I first turned it over, I had. I made sure I got out on the water so the wind would blow the smoke away. The motor was vibrating much more than usual and kept on producing blue smoke (oil) more than usual.
Even when the motor was warmed up it kept on smoking like crazy though. This helped cut the smoking down. See the in the video. Re: short intermittant white smoke from prop exhaust i am not sure this will be of any help, but to me white smoke rather then blue or black (either can look grey) would be steam.
What could cause white smoke , other than a bad head gasket. I did a valve job on a friends boat. Sent heads out to machine shop. After completion engines ran fine. Several months later one engine started blowing white smoke.
I swapped with a working old carb which was cleaned well and it ran like a beauty after clearing the fuel in the engine (through the spark plug hole). When it finally does crank it will run for a second then die. Re: what would be the symtoms of a bad crankshaft seal ring? WOT, no miss or stumble ,just at idle. Hi Everyone- I dug out my jet craft this past weekend and started her up.
She did not turn over in the usual seconds and noticed a little plume of white smoke coming out of the engine on port side. I don't know if it smokes at higher speeds. I have a 30hp 2-cycle Evinrude outboard.
During the break in period I was instructed to run it hours on a 24:mix. The motor still smokes fairly heavy when putting around and really heavy when starting it. I use octane fuel and Quicksilver premium cycle.
I also use one of those.
