Karunanidhi and is the first botanical garden in the city. Semmozhi Poonga is one of the big park in Chennai city. Entrance fee is there and car parking facilities are there. Built at an expense of million rupees, the wonderful garden has more than trees since its existence with few of them being more than a hundred years old.

Tholkappia Poonga or Adyar Eco Park (also known as Adyar Poonga ) is an ecological park set up by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the Adyar estuary area of Chennai, India. The entire park has been divided into zones with an individual theme. Along with the numerous species that are native to India, plants from various countries are imported to the Park to maintain its diversity. What you must look forward to on your visit here is the large number of exotic flora and rare plant species, medicinal and aromatic herbs. A brain child of the horticulture department, the garden encompasses an area of acres. It was set up by the horticulture department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.


Some of these plants have been importe especially the Chinese Bonsai plants (which are around years old). There is also a type of banyan tree called Ficus which has been imported from China. The entrance is a green arch made of little leaves and flowers.


There are many plants brought from many parts of the country which are rare to find. However, for all its new malls, factories, and IT parks, the city has also managed to maintain its green spaces fairly well in the form of several new parks and protected areas. Also known as Adyar Poonga or Adyar Eco Park , Tholkappia Poonga is an ecological park established by an initiative of the Tamil Nadu government.
