Valve cover gaskets are usually made of a cork material, sometimes covered in rubber. It was regular burning smoke. Have been troubleshooting for weeks now. Oil and coolant levels are steady, replaced the PCV valve , triple checked all connections and nothing is loose or leaking that we can see. Hello, need input please.
I had a leak that caused oil burning on the exhaust manifold and smelling bad inside the car. I replaced the gaskets and cleaned EGR paths and replaced the EGR valve. All was badly plugged up with carbon. Now all runs smooth but I have white smoke coming out of the.
So, it’s not really likely that the valve cover leak is causing all the smoke. No, it will not cause smoke from the exhaust pipe. However the leaking oil can drip on the exhaust manifold where it will be burnt and smoke.
I changed my valve cover gasket today in hopes to stop oil consumption. I also changed my spark plugs while at it. However when I bolted everything back up and started the car there is a bit of rattling coming from the engine bay and some white smoke coming from the back of the car through the exhaust. My valve cover was leaking quite profusely before but seemed to have stopped on its own. So I took my car out for a drive to see what happened when the oil was warmed up.
When I stopped after maybe three minutes of driving I pulled into a parking lot, popped the hood and there was smoke coming out. I was not entirely too alarmed at first because when I removed the the valve cover yesterday some oil did leak onto the exhaust. What size is your engine? So fit new:- Spark Plugs- Air Filter- Fuel Filter- Oil Filter- Exhaust Gaskets - Intake Gaskets - Stripped and cleaned entire engine down to chambers (but not gone to pistons)- New Valve Stem Seals- Valve clearances all c. We were told to change the pvc valve. We did and the smoke stopped but the check engine light came on so when they read the codes it said there was a misfire.
We changed the tubes on the coil packs and the check engine light went out but it started smoking again. The car runs great, BTW. Only an experienced mechanic can perform this task efficiently, requiring several hours to do so. After that, the car is reassembled.
From what I can tell, it seems to be just some oil burning off the exhaust possibly from spillage when I first cracked the valve cover. I had to take off the intake manifol air box assembly half of the wiring harness and disconnect the quick disconnect on the fuel rail. I can smell something like rubber burning smell coming under the hood.
A few times Ive seen white smoke coming under the Valve Cover. Smelled the engine at first. Once I actually spotted smoke after parking on an incline. Took it into European Automotive here in Atlanta.
Gaskets ( valve cover gasket ) were just old and thus leaking oil onto other parts of the engine which in turn caused the smell and smoke. White smoke from the exhaust Leaking oil that mixes with coolant produce a white smoke that emanates from the exhaust. Yes, a leaking valve cover can sometimes leak onto your hot exhaust system and will cause some smoke and a possible burning smell. Also, what are the chances of the EGR Valve going bad.
This is why I changed it.
