Toro mower smoking

If the lawn mower engine produces black smoke , this indicates that the carburetor is getting too much fuel (or running rich). If the carburetor float is stuck open, the engine will get too much fuel. Similarly, if the carburetor choke is stuck close the lawn mower engine will not be able to draw in enough air to create the proper air-fuel mixture. My lawn mower ( toro self propelled) was emitting smoke with oil residue.

If there is paint on the muffler , it could be burning off. Also check the cylinder hea the cylinder could be leaking. Look at the color and smell the smoke before you take it in for repairs – it could be the difference between buying a cheap air filter or spending big money on parts and labor. Cables will need adjustment from time to time. A week ago, the oil was filled extremely high and the first thing I did was use a hand pump to remove the oil to get it to the correct level.


I ran the mower after this without it smoking. A week later, it is smoking and sputtering oil out of the exhaust. The smoke was like a thick white smoke and it stunk. It only did it for about seconds. Hate to tell him but smoke scares me, especially when I am spending thousands for something brand new.


Is this typical or normal? Mower manual says put throttle to slow before shutting off.
