White smoke from exhaust

What does white smoke from motorcycle exhaust mean? Why is there white smoke coming out of my exhaust? White smoke can be a big problem or not, depending on the thickness. The white smoke is the result of normal condensation which builds up inside the exhaust system. If white smoke continues to come out of your exhaust while the car is running, there are other issues at fault.

One cause of white smoke from the exhaust might be the engine leaking coolant. If the engine leaks coolant, it will be burned by the heat of the engine and then come out as smoke from the exhaust. The good news is, not all white smoke signals problems in your car, as some can be due to normal condensation too. A rule of thumb though is the thicker the white smoke , the greater is your problem. The first sign of having contaminated oil is white exhaust smoke coming out of the tailpipe.

As this continues, the white smoke will begin to have a sweet odor smell that won’t go away. Damaged Coolant Reservoir Tank. Another area that can leak coolant is the coolant reservoir tank. This is generally less common to leak, but it can happen if the reservoir tank were to get damaged or cracked. When white smoke is spewing from your exhaust , it is usually an indication that something is burning.

The typical culprit is a burning fluid from the vehicle, but other causes are possible. A backyard mechanic can diagnose the problem by observing and smelling the smoke. The result is a white or light bluish smoke that comes out from exhaust manifold. One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder hea a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating.

A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine. The first think you should check is your air-filter and other intake components like sensors, fuel injectors and the fuel-pressure regulator. Other reasons could be a clogged fuel return line. Normally this is a sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. This is a very serious situation that must be repaired immediately.

White smoke from exhaust

You must STOP driving this vehicle or you will cause serious engine damage. The black smoke may show there is a return fuel line which is obstructed. Fuel injectors and sensors might also be damaged.

A final problem which can be diagnosed from black smoke is problem with the air filter. You may commonly see white smoke coming from the exhaust on cooler days upon starting. This is likely due to steam created due to the engine burning off the condensation. You can taste on the water from the exhaust, if it smells sweet it’s most likely coolant, and in this case, you have a bigger problem. A small amount of water is produced as a normal bi product of the combustion process and until the exhaust system warms up the water evaporates and can be seen as steam.

White smoke from exhaust

When an engine heats up under normal driving conditions the exhaust system will get hot as well. This is probably the result of normal condensation buildup inside the exhaust system. This kind of smoke disappears quickly.

However, thicker smoke is a big problem, and can be caused the engine burning coolant. The truth of the matter is that there are a few things that can cause white smoke , but a blown head gasket is. Black smoke or very dark smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. A new fuel odor or drop in MPG that seems to be coming from the exhaust pipe. Leaking or blown head gasket: The head gasket is located between the engine block and cylinder head.

In this video we show you why! It seals the combustion chambers, as well as the coolant and oil passages. A leaking or blown head gasket can allow coolant to enter the combustion chamber. This in white smoke coming from the tailpipe,. Hence the engine is now burning engine oil along with petrol.

The burning engine oil produces a white smoke.
