This will cause white smoke, along with the idle issue. Oil burning would be smoke with a very light blue tint. This is nothing but steam caused due to condensation. As the engine warms up after a few minutes, this white smoke will not be reduced because condensation is dissipated. The combination of the coolant and engine oil will create a milky appearance in the smoke.
All it takes is for just a little bit of coolant to get into the combustion chamber for white smoke to be produced. The truth of the matter is that there are a few things that can cause white smoke , but a blown head gasket is. Blue smoke is caused when oil is burned in the combustion chamber in the presence of fuel.
You may commonly see white smoke coming from the exhaust on cooler days upon starting. The most common reason for white smoke from the exhaust pipe that is condensed in the exhaust pipe. White smoke that is like vapor and disappears soon could majorly be because of condensation. Steam is emitted by condensation in exhaust pipe which is seen at exhaust emission. First is normal condition (so you don’t have to panic) and the second is a not so normal condition which should be fixed as soon as possible.
A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine. As the title states there is white smoke coming from the tail pipe (not a head gasket already checked that), fuel is coming out of the tail pipe. One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder hea a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating. White smoke will be released when even small amounts of coolant enter the combustion chamber. Volkswagen GTI Smoke from engine or exhaust Inspection at your home or office.
Our certified mobile technicians come to you days a week between AM and PM. This mostly happens while idling and a big cloud just after idling. I was just wondering, has anyone experienced the exhaust spitting out excessive white smoke on idle? It seems like when the car is on idle for about minutes or so, white smoke starts coming out?
But afterwards when you drive it, it disappears? Condensation that accumulates inside the exhaust pipes, converter and mufflers can produce a puff of white smoke upon diesel engine start-up. In very cold temperatures, the heated exhaust can freeze into minute fuel droplets when exiting the exhaust and produce a more prolonged emission of white smoke for a very short period of driving time. My brother purchased a Golf GTi weeks ago and has had endless issues from day one!
The problem now is that it has this intermittent white smoke problem. The function of the fuel injector is to supply the necessary amount of fuel to the combustion chamber at the right time. If your car has a damaged or broken fuel injector, there will be an irregularity in the timing, causing it to inject fuel at the wrong time which eventually leads to the emission of white smoke from the exhaust. All depends if it’s thin white like water vapor or thick white from coolant.
Check the ambient air temperature. If it is below degrees Fahrenheit, then white smoke is perfectly normal until the engine warms up. If it continues after the engine is warm, then there is a source of excess water somewhere in the engine.
If excessive exhaust smoke is produced even after engine warm-up, it is best to have an expert check the car for coolant leaks. Even minimal amounts of coolant leak can produce white smoke. Thick white smoke pouring from the exhaust is usually due to a crack in the cylinder hea engine block or head gasket. This kind of smoke disappears quickly. However, thicker smoke is a big problem, and can be caused the engine burning coolant.
So the smoke produced is white , if the oil is out to the intake then the oil will enter the combustion room and come burned during the power stroke that produces white smoke. It’s not necessarily anything to be concerned about. But, a LOT of it can be a sign of big trouble. Any ideas on what would cause this? Tried to upload a video of it but kept saying file ext not recognized.
WHITE SMOKE occurs when raw diesel comes through the exhaust completely intact and unburned. Some causes of this include Faulty or damaged injectors Incorrect injection timing (could be a worn timing gear or damaged crankshaft keyway). These are possible causes: Cylinder Head: A crack in the cylinder head (around the coolant jacket) will cause coolant to enter the combustion chamber.
White smoke from the exhaust is a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber, and can be a blown head gasket or cracked head.
