Isx cummins blowing white smoke

Isx cummins blowing white smoke

Blows white (steam) smoke only every once. White smoke is caused by either unburned fuel or coolant. The last time I used the engine brake, when I went back to accelerate I started getting white smoke out of the exhaust. After pretty much limping it home for a whole day that white smoke turned to a light grey smoke when I accelerated a little harder. For the most part I do feel a slight misfire, but it idles good still.

The issue is known by the truck mfgs and Cummins , but they are playing dumb to end users and consumers. Blowing white smoke is a red flag for your diesel engine, yet we see this happen all the time to our customers. In many cases, white smoke emanating from the tailpipe (often at idle once the engine reached operating temperature) typically means a worn out injector. A brand new diesel engine running at full load will experience a little bit of blow -by upon startup.

Blow -by is a condition where diesel fuel, air and vapor are pushed past the rings into the crankcase of the engine. This might be caused from the engine being too cool to burn the fuel, low compression in cylinder(s), fuel injection timing, defective fuel injector, burnt out glow plugs, clogged air filter or poor quality fuel. The white smoke is unburned fuel, that is caused by a cold engine. The Cummins has a heater element in the intake to preheat the air prior to its entry to the combustion chamber. This is a lot of times due to High Fuel Restriction.

Most likely It is due to Fuel Restriction, as You have no faults. I would first perform a Cylinder Cutout Test, and Cutout the Injectors till the engine only runs on cylinder. They do not completely stop spraying fuel when they are OFF. TDC and plunger lift to determine timing. L Cummins engine, and I am having some problems.

Sometimes when it is col the truck sputters and blows white smoke , and it takes a few minutes to clear out. Cracked gasket, cracked hea cracked something. Got behind a road tractor tonight that pulled out very slow in front of me. All of a sudden very large quanities of pure white smoke blew from the stack.

It was so thick is obscured sight! Thankfully the wind was blowing the cloud away from me, my window was down and you could hear him chugging like an old steam engine. My glow plugs work correctly, the coolant looks great, oil is goo nothing smells fowel, the white smoke smells like diesel smoke.

This happened all the sudden, truck would always start with the bump of the key. I really NEED the help with any advice anyone could give. The turbo will make strange sounds says the manuel.

The ISX is a complicated engine. I forget the term they have given the turbo, But is it what I think. The blades on the turbo adjust like a prop on an airplane?

Leaking injector s can cause white to blueish smoke. Yes, the list with an ISX is long I agree with you, check the VGT controller. Use Insite to view all parameters with the engine running. Scroll down to the turbo info, look at the percent closed and commanded closed numbers.

I do not believe your white smoke is oil but fuel from your VP4 I heard this same story (and had it happen to me) too many times. You may be loosing oil in the form of a leak but the white smoke your talking about sounds more like fuel which leads me to believe your VPis saying bye bye. Basically, smoke from a diesel engine indicates that something is not right.

Diesel Smoke tells YOU a Story. It should be taken as an indication that there is a problem existing (or developing), that will potentially shorten the engine life, or result in unnecessary costs.
