White smoke out of tailpipe at startup

This is nothing but steam caused due to condensation. If white smoke continues to come out of your exhaust while the car is running, there are other issues at fault. One cause of white smoke from the exhaust might be the engine leaking coolant.

If the engine leaks coolant , it will be burned by the heat of the engine and then come out as smoke from the exhaust. In this case, bad seals or piston rings cause oil to leak into combustion chamber which then mixes with fuel and burns. The result is a white or light bluish smoke that comes out from exhaust manifold. All it takes is a little bit of coolant to leak out and get mixed in with the engine oil. Once that happens, the oil will become contaminated.

The first sign of having contaminated oil is white exhaust smoke coming out of the tailpipe. As this continues, the white smoke will begin to have a sweet odor smell that won’t go away. White smoke can be caused by many reasons. But if you get white smoke from exhaust at startup , it might be from these reasons: A cracked or warped cylinder head. Dean, 5woil is fine, Some white smoke at start up from cold engine is fairly normal and will dissipate (stop) for the most part after engine and exhaust has warmed up to operating temperature.

If you notice you are low on coolant or having to add coolant then there could be an issue. As a car owner you expect something to come from the tailpipe. When I start my car for the first time every day, I have white smoke come out my exhaust usually for about a minute or two but it runs fine after that. What can cause white smoke out the tailpipe? Why does white smoke from exhaust smells like gas?

If the problem is a leaking head-gasket cylinder you will see white smoke , because the faulty gasket is allowing air and fuel to enter the cooling system. As this mixture burns, white smoke is produced and exits through your tailpipe. One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder hea a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating.

White smoke out of tailpipe at startup

A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine. Black smoke is burning oil. Blue smoke is usually transmission fluid due to a leaking modulator valve in the older auto transmission.

Answer cracked heads. Mine started misfiring, with new plugs. Smoke came out the exhaust. If you see white smoke during startup only, then this is probably because oil leaks pass the valves and mixes with any moisture present in the car’s exhaust. When you park your car under extremely cold conditions, the car becomes too cool, its air shrinks and starts producing moisture.

Not always smoke coming out of your tailpipe is a devastating engine problem, sometimes its as. As the exhaust stream begins to heat up, the hot air can then pickup the condensation and take it out the tailpipe as a white cloud. But, watch your fluid levels.

Just in case you actually do have something bad going on. Then everything is fine as usual. It never used to happen. It is never a good signal and can indicate several problems.

But if you spot it early, know what to do and act on it, these problems can be fixed.
