As we walked through Lalbagh there was a sweet smell of flowers in the air but the trees refused to give us any cool breeze. The Mango Mela has been held in the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bengaluru during the height of the mango season for the past few years. It is held for a month and is an event that attracts mango lovers from around the city.


The Mango and Jackfruit Mela of the Horticulture Producers and Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) kicked off on Friday wherein both fruits are being sold at a discount on the market price at its 3retail outlets in the city for the rest of the season. BENGALURU: About varieties of mangoes , the ‘king of fruits’, will be up for grabs at Lalbagh from Friday. Also as part of the three-week annual Mango and Jackfruit Mela , the department of horticulture and the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd will set up stalls.


Stalls have been set up at Lalbagh , Bangalore The much-awaited annual Mango Mela has finally arrived in Bengaluru. One such fair was held at Lalbagh in Bengaluru. Here is how the mela kick-started on Thursday. The proposal has been floated by the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation.

It is that time of the year which completely transforms my diet plan. I have been visiting the Mango and Jackfruit Festival held in Lal Bagh,. Various farmers from across the country will participate in this fruit mela which is organized by the Department of Horticulture. The garden is of course not the same what it used to be when i used to visit years back.


They are also selling varieties of jackfruits. Lalbagh is hosting the Annual Mango Mela with varieties of the fruit. The sweet aroma from different kind of mangoes piled high across the walkways beckoned us in their midst.

Each had its own beautiful shape and size to boast of, and was ornamented with green, re yellow patches, being at different stages of ripeness. Initially the authorities had called off the mela owing to a low yield of mangoes, this year but they had a last minute change of plans. However there are only varieties of the fruit on display,. The fair, which saw growers from Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Ramanagara districts manning more than 1stalls, will be on till June 26. The sheer range of varieties is mind boggling.


Some I had heard of Mallika,Badami,Alphonso,Raspuri,Totapuri,Neelum to name a few. The most awaited 20-day mango and jack fruit mela will be held from May at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. It is jointly organised by the Horticulture Department and the Karnataka State Mango. I was watching a local news channel and the news on Mango and Jacfruit Mela caught my attention.


So decided to visit the mela once and buy delicious Mangoes and Jackfruit. My sister in law also happily agreed to join us. The mela has more than varieties of mango on display from Karnataka’s Badami to Odisha and Himsagar of W. Twice an year, during republic day and Independence day, flower show is organized in Lalbagh , exhibiting wide variety of flowers.
