My VW Passat started giving out white smoke from the exhaust while in motion. One of the hoses of coolant system had swollen up on and was replaced. There is a smell of gas was coming from inside cabin so mechanic had replaced the valve gasket , but there was still white smoke. This will cause white smoke, along with the idle issue. Overnight, condensation can collect in the exhaust which will turn into steam as your engine warms up.
One cause of white smoke from the exhaust might be the engine leaking coolant. If the engine leaks coolant , it will be burned by the heat of the engine and then come out as smoke from the exhaust. A problem with antifreeze might also be causing white smoke to come from the exhaust.
Sounds to me that you have some serious issues with your car. First of all white smoke =coolant. If your turbo was failing it will usually dump oil into the exhaust creating blue smoke.
As far as the check engine light flashing. That is telling you NOT to continue driving. You will damage your catalytic converter if you drive for a prolonged amount. Little puffs are just traces of condensation or steam.
I did a bit of digging around online and stuff and most sites said to check coolant levels etc. When there is white smoke coming from the exhaust, it can mean a few things. It’s not necessarily anything to be concerned about. But, a LOT of it can be a sign of big trouble. Condensation can turn to vapor, providing what looks like white exhaust.
But excessive white smoke likely means coolant is leaking into the engine combustion chambers. This has only occurred over night and never after sitting at work for hours. Thick white smoke blowing out the exhaust ! What does the exhaust smell like? White smoke is unburned fuel, usually, though it can be steam from coolant. A bad MAF, reading low, usually does not cause white smoke - it causes low power.
Check the condition of your engine oil and make sure it is not milky white or has bubbles in it. If you observe black smoke coming out of exhaust pipe, here are ways you can do to fix this problems. Blue smoke from the exhaust indicates burning oil. In replacing the valve cover gasket for an oil leak, some smoke from residual oil is normal but it would be excess oil burning off on the manifold from the engine compartment, not the exhaust. Hope this helps with your question.
One of two conditions is responsible for white smoke blowing out of your exhaust. TDI with particulate filter has a few times send a large amount of white smoke out from the exhaust pipe, it have been smoking for minutes and then back to normal. Consulting the maual has only given my an idea that could be that the particulate filter are burning particles but. I know its common and I read through the other posts and will try to build the into this one.
VW Passat with 70miles sends a puff of white smoke from the exhaust pipe while accelerating. Any ideas what the problem is? The car is a Passat 1. This is normal and is why exhaust systems have small holes at the rear of the muffler to allow water to drip out.
When the engine is again started the exhaust system will heat up evaporating the water causing steam. When you get this fixe also do the timing belt and water pump.
